Candle Care 101: Glow Bright, Burn Safe

Hey, you just got yourself a Sunshine Coast Glow Co. candle—nice choice!

The first time you light your candle, let it melt all the way to the edges of the jar (a few hours) to prevent tunnelling (aka that annoying wax canyon effect) and offers the longest, smoothest burn.

Note: Midnight Swell Surfer was a limited edition drop made using leftover candle wax from 4 yins missing their yangs.

Your candle’s wick isn’t just there for looks—it plays a big role in how it burns too! Our candle wick material includes cotton and:

🔥 Wood Crackle Wick – Gives off a cozy, crackling sound.
🌿 Wood Wick – A clean-burning, minimalist wick.
🐝 Hemp & Beeswax Wick – A  slower burn and steady glow.

• Regardless of wick type, the right length is key!
• Before each burn, trim the candle wick to 1/8" - 1/4" (just a quick snip).
• Too long? The flame gets too high. Too short? It won’t stay lit. Keep it just right!
• Burn our clean burning candles for 2–4 hours the first time to ensure an even melt and the best burn.

• Keep your candle on a heat-safe surface, away from drafts, fans, pets, and tiny humans.
• Never leave your clean burning candles unattended—because, well, fire. 

• Burn 4 hours max—candles need a break too.
• If the flame gets too high or flickers blow it out, trim the wick and let the candle wax cool.
• Prevent glass overheating and blow out candle wick material at 1/2" of wax. 

• If your wood wick is struggling to stay lit, trim it a bit shorter, remove burnt bits.
• Storing your clean burning candles in a cool, dry place keeps the wax fresh and the scent strong.
